Next Week: Pumpkin Pie or Soup or Gratin with Leeks, Fennel and Cauliflower

We have some hefty items going into the boxes next week, most notably the pie pumpkin.  These are not your standard jack-o-lantern variety but rather a true squash, one with the best taste and texture for a real homemade pumpkin pie.  Ditch that stuff in a can this year and try your hand at a made-from-scratch pumpkin pie.  I also think you could make a wonderful gratin with the cauliflower, leeks, fennel and pumpkin.  And pumpkin soup is a winner every time.

And the purple carrots are gorgeous this week!  Not only a novelty because they taste great, too!

Here are some of the highlights and specials for the upcoming week:

  • Brussels Sprouts from Tahoma Farms, at $3.00 per 3/4 lb
  • Last of the Mixed Eggplant from Tahoma, at $2.50 per pound
  • Chanterelle Mushrooms, at a sale price of $3.50 per 1/4 lb
  • Beautiful, large bunches of mild Arugula, $2 per bunch
